Check the walk maps – choose the best walk for you; distance and ascent are important!
Be clear about where to park on the day.
Check the weather the day before – a Plan B walk may be announced.
Let the walk leader know of any plan changes, delays, or cancellation ASAP. One the day of the walk use the walk leader’s contact number, before that contact the convenor.
Bring any medication and a note in your rucksack of any specific medical needs.
Wear appropriate clothes and boots for the conditions, pack extra layers inc. socks!
Bring map, compass/navigation aid, whistle, plasters, and enough food and fluids.
Don’t be afraid to ask the leader to go slower or break the group into two paces. You can use the whistle if you fall too far back and have not been noticed – several short blasts..
